It is a hot, sticky summer day in Korea and you have been waiting in line at a popular attraction for quite some time only to see that you will be in line for a while longer. You are surrounded by tons families with young children that are noisy and just can sit still. You are getting pushed and shoved without apology (as is the norm in Korea) and you catch yourself debating whether it was a good idea to come or not. Finally, you arrive at the ticket counter and you find out that the worker at the ticket booth speaks limited English. After a few minutes of trying to communicate with hand signals and short Korean and English phrases, you manage to pay full price for your ticket. By this time, you are already frustrated and tired and chances are you feel like things will only get worse.
Does this describe you? If so, you are not alone. Many visitors and foreigners living in Korea have experienced something like this at some point. Lucky for us foreigners, there is a solution to most of these problems and it¡¯s called Seoul Pass. This free and convenient app can be easily downloaded off of the Google Play store and the Apple App Store. With the slogan ¡° Spend less, see more¡±, Seoul Pass gives discounts and package deals to foreigners only and is available in English, Chinese and Japanese. You are able to choose from many popular tours, shows and attractions in Seoul such as The Trick Eye Museum, Korean Folk Village, Fantastic Show and even a trip to the DMZ. Best of all, if you use Seoul Travel Pass, you are guaranteed to get discounted prices and you don¡¯t have to wait in long lines! You save time, money and to top it all off, you don¡¯t have to use your ticket right away. The ticket is saved on the app and is valid for 60 days from the day you bought the ticket. So, if for some reason you decide you don¡¯t want to go to whichever Seoul attraction you chose, you can save it and go any other day you choose.
How does this work? It is (seriously) as easy as 1, 2, 3. After you download the app, the first thing you do is select any tourist attraction of your choice. Immediately you are able to see a description of the show, attraction or tour and the price you have to pay. Second, you click to pay for your trip and you are basically done. The third step is to simply follow the directions they give you on how to get to the tourist attraction and show them the OR Pass at the ticket booth. Then you can enjoy your trip!
I was one of the lucky few that were asked to test out this awesome app. I was asked to go to the 63 Building using the app. After the ticket popped up on the ¡°View my pass¡± section, I simply walked up to the ticket booth and showed them the QR pass on my phone. The worker simply took my phone for a few seconds and presto, they gave me my entrance pass. After I received my pass I realized how much money Seoul Pass saves its customers. The regular ticket price for the ¡°Big 3 Package¡±, which includes the Wax Museum, Sea World Aquarium and a trip to the observation deck, is 45, 000 won (about 43 USD) but on Seoul Pass, it is only 23, 000 won (about 22 USD)! That is about 48% savings and it is not limited to this one trip. You save money on ALL the attractions the app offers.
I have to admit, when I was asked to participate to test the app, I was a bit skeptical at first but I am glad I did. I was able to enjoy a day in Seoul and visit the popular 63 Building hassle free and at a discounted price. I had a wonderful time and that says a lot. I have been living in Korea for two years and have gone to almost all of the most popular shows, tours and activities in Seoul. Most of the time, it was a hassle having to wait in long lines, trying to communicate with workers and paying full price. However, Seoul Pass made my trip to Seoul an amazing experience. I definitely recommend anyone foreigner living in Korea or people visiting Seoul to try this free app, you will ¡°spend less, see more¡±. Trust me, you will not regret it!
