As a foreigner in Korea, it can sometimes be difficult to know which attractions to visit, let alone where to purchase tickets from. In such a vibrant, lively city as Seoul there are endless possibilities, but if you do not speak Korean well, getting tickets for attractions can seem like a daunting task. With the Seoul Travel Pass App, buying tickets need no longer be a mystery! Created exclusively for foreigners and available to download from the iTunes and Google Play app stores, this easy to use app takes away the hard work of searching different websites for tickets and condenses it into one place. Not only are you able to purchase tickets for over 30 attractions, there are also massive savings to be made through discounts. Simply browse the app for attractions, purchase discounted tickets and present the pass voucher on your smartphone to the ticket desk at your chosen destination. The app also contains a handy metro map so you can easily find your way, making the app a well-rounded, convenient way for foreigners to enjoy Korea.
For our experience of using the Seoul Travel Pass App, we visited the 63CITY building with the BIG3 package, granting us entry to the aquarium, observation gallery and wax museum, and later the Hangang Ferry River Cruise – our tickets were free as part of the experience, but using the Seoul Travel Pass App would normally cost 34200 KRW, a massive saving of 40%. After arriving at 63CITY, we presented our smartphones to the ticket desk and were handed an admission ticket in return; the process was quick and simple and we were able to go and enjoy the attractions at our own pace. 63CITY was packed with Korean families, marking it as an excellent destination to enjoy as a group. In particular, the aquarium stood out: everywhere there were tanks full of beautiful exotic fish, a pod of swimming seals and an adorable family of otters who seemed to love the public¡¯s attention, constantly peering out of their tank and showing off for their captivated audience. Most explanations next to the tanks here are in Korean so if you don¡¯t understand Korean well and want to make the most of the aquarium it might be best to bring a friend who does know Korean well. However the aquarium is enjoyable nonetheless, and ends with a delightful gift shop full of plushie versions of the popular aquarium animals. The main draw of 63CITY, perhaps, may be the spectacular views from the observation gallery. Take an elevator to the 60th floor, and be blown away by fantastic views of Seoul from above, complete with an art gallery and cafe. Unfortunately it was a little foggy when we went, however the views were still amazing, particularly when enjoyed with the cafe¡¯s popular Schneeballen! Overall, the 63CITY is well worth a visit, and should not be missed with Seoul Travel Pass App¡¯s 40% discount.
After eating a delicious lunch in 63CITY¡¯s food hall, we departed to go on the Hangang Ferry River Cruise. Again, using the app could not be easier: we simply had to fill in our basic details on an extra form, show our smartphones again and we were admitted. It was a very hot and humid day, but being on deck on the ferry provided a refreshing breeze to enjoy the views. If you sit inside the ferry, an announcer will point out the sights, not only in Korean but in English too – indeed there were quite a few other foreigners enjoying this attraction. You are able to buy drinks for a reasonable cost at the cafe on the ground floor of the ferry, and you may also sit on the upper floor or simply walk the deck and take photographs. The cruise provides excellent views of some of the Han River¡¯s most famous bridges and surrounding attractions, and a more unique perspective to view them from. Landmarks we were able to spot included Bamseom and Hangangcheolgyo (Railroad Bridge). Whilst we took the cruise during the day time, it seems like it would be equally enjoyed at night, where one would be able to see the beautiful lights of Seoul – perhaps perfect for a romantic date!
Overall, the Seoul Travel Pass App is highly recommended for its convenience and discount rates on popular attractions. It should be an important app in any foreigner in Korea¡¯s arsenal to truly discover the beauty and vibrancy of Seoul.
