The Korean Sommelier, Paul Eun, will participate in the Chilean Wine Tour, an international promotional event for Chilean wines that will be held at the Shilla Hotel inSeoul on June 3.
Paul Eun has achieved significant international recognition. He was awarded first place in the 4th Category of Wine Advisor Concours du Meilleur Sommelier in National Vins de France in 2005, first place in the 1st Korea International Sommelier Competition in 2006, and second place in the 9th National Concours du Meilleur Sommelier in Vins de France.
He has also collaborated with publications, such as The Wine, and is continually invited to judge the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition and the Korea Wine Challenge.
The Chilean Wine Tour is a traveling wine showroom that visits different international destinations. The tour presents an overall image of the Chilean bottled wine industry through a seminar and a walk-around tasting, oriented towards a professional audience. On June 3, 2014 the Asian Route begins, first with an appearance inSouth Korea and, later, in Japan.
The seminar and specialized tasting, "Chile's diversity through Premium Wines", will be about the great diversity of soils and strains that exist in Chile, and whose presence results in premium wines with aromas and flavors that are unique to their origin.
The activity will be led by Chilean winemaker Felipe Garcia - a professional with extensive experience in major Chilean wineries - and will be accompanied by the Korean sommelier, Paul Eun, who will be responsible for providing information to the attendants of the seminar on pairing Chilean wines with traditional Korean food.
"Chilean wines offer the best value for money due to their ideal terroir, low cost, dynamic people, and also their FTA with Korea. Furthermore, many wineries are very passionate and the quality of Chilean wines develops year to year", says Paul Eun about Chilean wines in South Korea.
Currently, there are over 110 Chilean wineries present in South Korea, making Chilean wine products the most recognized by Korean consumers. Next June 3rd, 20 Chilean wineries will arrive in Seoul to seek new opportunities and to strengthen their presence in the South Korean market, the fourth largest economy in Asia.
"Chilean wines have contributed a lot to the expanding consumption of wine in Korea. Well-structured and balanced wines at reasonable prices have been very attractive in restaurants and shops", added the expert.
In regards to the best way to pair Chilean wines with Korean food, the sommelier Paul Eun explains that, "BBQ is one of the most popular Korean foods, and the smoky flavor that comes from the charcoal can be paired well with the typical character of Chilean wines. In my opinion, I would like to recommend several kinds of offal dishes with Chilean wines. Meat offal stew, or "Soondae", which is a dish similar to haggis from Scotland, could be well harmonized".
The Chilean Wine Tour will take place next June 3rd at the Hotel Shilla en Seoul. The seminary, "Chile's diversity through Premium Wines" will take place between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM and there will be a tasting from 8 distinct Chilean vineyards. Later, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, the Walk Around Tasting will begin, where importers can taste products and conduct meetings with the 20 participating Chilean vineyards.
