A little boy in Miss Harrison's kindergarten heard the story of the legend of the Christ Child, told just prior to his going to Europe for a three months trip with his father and mother. While there his mother took him one day with her to see a collection of art photographs. He looked at them quietly and thoughtfully for a time, and then picking up a copy of the above picture he said, "Mamma, you told me I might take a present home to Miss Harrison, and I would like to take her this picture, because it looks just as I think the little Christ Child that she read us about must have looked.¡° Çظ®½¼ ¾çÀÇ À¯Ä¡¿ø¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ÇÑ ¾î¸° ¼Ò³âÀº ¾Æ¹öÁö¿Í ¾î¸Ó´Ï¿Í ÇÔ²² 3°³¿ù°£ÀÇ À¯·´ ¿©ÇàÀ» ¶°³ª±â Á÷Àü¿¡ ÀüÇØÁø ¾Æ±â ¿¹¼öÀÇ Àü¼³¿¡ ´ëÇÑ À̾߱⸦ µé¾ú½À´Ï´Ù. ±×°÷¿¡ ÀÖ´Â µ¿¾È ±×ÀÇ ¾î¸Ó´Ï´Â ¾î´À ³¯ ±×¸¦ µ¥¸®°í ¹Ì¼ú »çÁø Ä÷º¼ÇÀ» º¸·¯ °¬½À´Ï´Ù. ±×´Â Àá½Ã µ¿¾È ±×µéÀ» Á¶¿ëÈ÷ ±×¸®°í °õ°õÀÌ ¹Ù¶óº¸´Ù°¡ À§ÀÇ »çÁø ÇÑ ÀåÀ» Áý¾î µé°í ¸»Çß½À´Ï´Ù. So beautiful was the thought embodied in the story that it left the same impression upon the mind of the child that the great artist Murillo had left upon canvas. This is but one instance that great thoughts do make impressions upon the mind of the child. À̾߱⿡ ±¸ÇöµÈ »ý°¢Àº ³Ê¹«³ª ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿ö¼ À§´ëÇÑ ¿¹¼ú°¡ ¹«¸®¿ä(Murillo)°¡ ĵ¹ö½º¿¡ ³²±ä °Í°ú °°Àº ÀλóÀ» ¾ÆÀÌÀÇ ¸¶À½¿¡ ³²°å½À´Ï´Ù. À̰ÍÀº À§´ëÇÑ »ý°¢ÀÌ ¾ÆÀÌÀÇ ¸¶À½¿¡ ±íÀº ÀλóÀ» ÁÖ´Â ÇÑ °¡Áö ¿¹¿¡ ºÒ°úÇÕ´Ï´Ù.

All festival occasions, when rightly used, have a unifying effect upon the family, neighborhood, Sunday-school, church, state, or nation, in that they direct all minds, for the time being, away from self, and in one direction, toward one central thought. The family festivals are an enormous power in the hands of the mother who knows how to use them aright. By means of the birthday anniversaries, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and above all, Christmas, she can direct her children's activities into channels of unselfish endeavor. ¸ðµç ÃàÁ¦ Çà»ç´Â ¿Ã¹Ù·Î »ç¿ëµÇ¸é °¡Á·, ÀÌ¿ô, ÁÖÀÏÇб³, ±³È¸, ±¹°¡ ¶Ç´Â ±¹°¡¿¡ ÅëÀÏ È¿°ú°¡ ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ÇϳªÀÇ Á᫐ »ç»óÀ» ÇâÇÏ¿©. °¡Á· ÃàÁ¦´Â ±×°ÍÀ» ¿Ã¹Ù¸£°Ô »ç¿ëÇÒ ÁÙ ¾Æ´Â ¾î¸Ó´ÏÀÇ ¼Õ¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ¾öû³ ÈûÀÔ´Ï´Ù. »ýÀÏ ±â³äÀÏÀΠ7¿ù 4ÀÏ, Ãß¼ö °¨»çÀý, ±×¸®°í ¹«¾ùº¸´Ùµµ Å©¸®½º¸¶½º¸¦ ÅëÇØ ±×³à´Â ÀÚ³àµéÀÇ È°µ¿À» ºñÀ̱âÀûÀÎ ³ë·ÂÀÇ Ã¤³Î·Î À̲ø ¼ö ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù.

Of all festivals of the year the Christmas festival is perhaps the least understood, that is, if one is to judge by the manner in which the day is generally observed. Why do we celebrate Christmas? What are we celebrating? Is it not the greatest manifestation of love, unselfish love, that has ever been revealed to man? And how, as a rule, are children taught to observe it? Usually by expecting an undue amount of attention, an unlimited amount of injudicious feeding, and a selfish exaction of unneeded presents; thus egotism, greed, and selfishness are fostered, where love, generosity, and self-denial should be exercised. ±× ÇØÀÇ ¸ðµç ÃàÁ¦ Áß¿¡¼ Å©¸®½º¸¶½º ÃàÁ¦´Â ¾Æ¸¶µµ °¡Àå ÀÌÇصµ°¡ ³·À» °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ¿Ö ¿ì¸®´Â Å©¸®½º¸¶½º¸¦ ÃàÇÏÇմϱî? ¿ì¸®´Â ¹«¾ùÀ» ÃàÇÏÇմϱî? Áö±Ý±îÁö Àΰ£¿¡°Ô °è½ÃµÈ °ÍÀº °¡Àå Å« »ç¶ûÀÇ Ç¥Çö, ºñÀ̱âÀûÀÎ »ç¶ûÀÌ ¾Æ´Õ´Ï±î? ±×¸®°í ¿øÄ¢ÀûÀ¸·Î ¾î¶»°Ô ¾ÆÀ̵éÀÌ ±×°ÍÀ» °üÂûÇϵµ·Ï °¡¸£Ä¨´Ï±î? º¸Åë °úµµÇÑ °ü½É, ¹«ºÐº°ÇÑ ¸ÔÀÌ ÁÖ±â, ºÒÇÊ¿äÇÑ ¼±¹°ÀÇ À̱âÀûÀÎ °Å»À» ±â´ëÇÔÀ¸·Î½á; ±×¸®ÇÏ¿© À̱â½É, Å½¿å, À̱â½ÉÀÌ Á¶ÀåµÇ¾î »ç¶û, °ü´ëÇÔ, ±Ø±â°¡ ¹ßÈֵǾî¾ß ÇÕ´Ï´Ù.

The Christmas season is the season in which the joy of giving should be so much greater than that of receiving, that the child, through his own experiences, is prepared somewhat to comprehend that great truth, "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.¡° Å©¸®½º¸¶½º ½ÃÁðÀº º£Çª´Â ±â»ÝÀÌ ¹Þ´Â ±â»Ýº¸´Ù ÈξÀ Ä¿¾ß ÇÏ´Â °èÀýÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ±×·¡¼ ¾ÆÀÌ´Â ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ °æÇèÀ» ÅëÇØ "ÇÏ´À´ÔÀº ¼¼»óÀ» ³Ê¹« »ç¶ûÇϼż ±×ÀÇ À¯ÀÏÇÑ ¾ÆµéÀ» Áּ̽À´Ï´Ù.¡°

For weeks beforehand the mother can lay her plans by means of which each child in the family may be led to make something, or may do without something, or may earn money for the purchase of something, which is to add to his Christmas joy by enabling him to give to those he loves, and also to some less fortunate child who, but for his thoughtfulness, would be without any Christmas "cheer." In this endeavor, of course, the mother must join with heart and soul, else the giving is liable to become a mere formal fulfillment of a taxing obligation. ¸î ÁÖ Àü¿¡ ¾î¸Ó´Ï´Â °¡Á·ÀÇ °¢ Àڳడ ¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¸¦ ¸¸µéµµ·Ï À̲ø°Å³ª, ¾Æ¹« °Íµµ ¾øÀÌ ÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖÀ¸¸ç, ¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¸¦ ±¸ÀÔÇϱâ À§ÇØ µ·À» ¹ú ¼ö ÀÖ´Â °èȹÀ» ¼¼¿ï ¼ö ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ±×´Â ±×°¡ »ç¶ûÇÏ´Â »ç¶÷µé¿¡°Ô ÁÙ ¼ö ÀÖ°Ô Çß°í, ¶ÇÇÑ ±×ÀÇ »ç·Á ±íÀº »ý°¢À¸·Î ÀÎÇØ Å©¸®½º¸¶½º "ȯȣ"°¡ ¾ø¾úÀ» ºÒ¿îÇÑ ¾î¸°ÀÌ¿¡°Ôµµ ÁÙ ¼ö ÀÖ¾ú½À´Ï´Ù. ¹°·Ð ÀÌ ³ë·Â¿¡ ¾î¸Ó´Ï´Â ¸¶À½°ú ¿µÈ¥À» ´ÙÇØ Âü¿©ÇØ¾ß ÇÕ´Ï´Ù. ±×·¸Áö ¾ÊÀ¸¸é ÁÖ´Â °ÍÀÌ ³³¼¼ Àǹ«ÀÇ ´Ü¼øÇÑ Çü½ÄÀû ÀÌÇàÀÌ µÇ±â ½±½À´Ï´Ù.
